The editorial page is a marketplace of ideas, a grand stage where we come together to challenge each other, learn from one another and progress as a city, state and nation.Īs I temporally take some time off, it seems fitting to thank the editors, who have given me the freedom to express my thoughts, for the readers who have engaged with my writing and for the opportunity to contribute to the grand narrative of our times. As an opinion columnist, my mission has always been to stir thought, spark debate and stimulate action. I’ve strived to illuminate the corners of our society that often remain in the shadows, to give a voice to the voiceless, and to hold the powerful accountable. The privilege of occupying this space has allowed me to dissect the issues that perplex us, to celebrate the triumphs that inspire us, and to mourn the tragedies that unite us in grief. The dialogues we’ve initiated here have become the lifeblood of this column, fostering a sense of community that transcends geographical boundaries. Your emails and feedback have been a source of enlightenment, challenging me to question my assumptions and expand my horizons. I’ve been humbled by the depth of your intellect, the strength of your convictions, and the passion with which you engage with the world. In this role, I’ve had the privilege of engaging with thinkers, leaders and readers from all walks of life. Each of you has been an integral part of this journey, and for that, I am profoundly thankful. Thank you, for the patience with which you’ve read my words, for the thoughtful responses you’ve given and for the encouragement you’ve shown. I have also particularly felt it a privilege to shine some light on some special Boulder County residents. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to chronicle these years. We’ve weathered political storms, wrestled with societal issues, and grappled with the profound questions posed by technological advancements and much more. Since my column first began running, it has seen us navigate through tumultuous times. In every column, I intended to challenge, provoke thought and continue the richness of our collective thoughts. I felt that my writing could be my service to our community during those uncertain and scary times. Since the COVID pandemic began, in March of 2020, these columns number well over 100. It’s been my honor and privilege to have the opportunity to share my thoughts, feelings and engage in conversations about the issues that matter most to us. Over the past nine years, crafting this regular opinion column has been a journey, a voyage of discovery, and an education in itself. The dialogues we began here will continue to be important, and I am excited to explore new avenues to continue these conversations in the future. I’m not putting a period on a sentence, merely a semicolon. I always thought if I could connect to just one person with the column it was worth my time. I am grateful for the platform that has allowed me to connect with you, some of you at your breakfast table, for the myriad ideas we’ve exchanged and for the mutual growth we’ve experienced. But more than the sadness, I feel gratitude. There’s a certain melancholy in saying, I am temporarily taking time off, a sense of loss that’s inevitable when something that has been a significant part of one’s life is temporarily suspended.
